Prime and Composite Numbers

- Identify prime numbers less than or equal to 100.
- Identify composite numbers less than or equal to 100.
- Demonstrate with concrete or pictorial representations and explain orally or in writing why a number is prime or composite.
What is a Prime number?A prime number is a number that has only two factors, 1 and itself.

Composite NumbersComposite Numbers are numbers that have more than 2 factors. We can think of this in a couple of different ways:
1. You can multiply more than 2 numbers to get that number. 2. You can count by something to get to that number (remember, multiplication is like skip counting!) 3. Composite numbers can be divided into equal groups of something (try 2, 3, 5, and 7!) |
Finding FactorsFinding Factors is the easiest way to determine if a number is prime or composite. Here's a video about factoring.
